Percussionist PHILLIP KING has a long history in the world of music both as a performer and as media support for other musicians. While still underage he performed in clubs in New York’s Harlem, and after graduating for William Paterson University’s Jazz program played in some of the more well known uptown venues. At university he benefitted from tutelage from jazz luminaries like Rufus Reid, Dave Samuels, and Mel Lewis. Along with his long career in the world of media design, he continues to perform with musicians throughout the region, and also makes art using today’s electronic music tools.
Pianist GARY MANCINELLI is a graduate of William Paterson’s jazz program, having studied with Thad Jones, Sir Roland Hanna, Barry Harris, and Gary Kirkpatrick. He subsequently performed with Jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, Thad Jones, George Mraz, and Mel Lewis. In the world of pop music he’s performed on stage with major artists such as Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole, B.B. King, Luther Vandross, Michael McDonald, George Duke, The Whispers, The O’Jays, and many more. Most notable has been the time he has spent touring the world with The Manhattans and with Gerald Alston, culminating with Gary appearing on The Manhattans’ segment of PBS’s “My Music of the 70’s” as Orchestra Director. This program can still be seen on air and online. Gary still performs in the New York Metropolitan area with many bands in a wide variety of musical styles, and teaches piano and guitar to students of a wide range of ages and talents.
Bassist EARL SAULS has developed an original and highly musical approach to his instrument. During a career that has spanned over four decades, he has played with some of the all-time jazz greats, including Stan Getz, Pepper Adams, Howard McGhee, Woody Herman, Warren Vache, Warne Marsh, Chuck Wayne, and many others. Noted for his fine sound,

Patty Slezak is an Adult Reference Librarian, and is a huge fan of movies, music and audiobooks; happily she manages all the materials for those adult collections, as well as the digital resources for Libby. Need a recommendation? Please feel free to ask!
Patty facilitates many different programs, enabling her to share her passions with others! Let’s discuss books and film at the discussion groups, attend one of the jazz concerts scheduled, or tune in to an interview with a talented jazz musician!
Lastly, Patty designs and produces the monthly adult program newsletter (aptly called "Check It Out!") which is available digitally and in print to keep you up to date with all the library has to offer!
She has been at the Wayne Public Library since 2004, and has a BFA Degree in Writing & Publishing, and a Masters in Library & Information Sciences.
