Wall Art Display - Knot Seeing Things by Elizabeth McGinnis

Wall Art Display - Knot Seeing Things by Elizabeth McGinnis

The April wall art display is by local artist, Elizabeth McGinnis.

Elizabeth McGinnis has loved photography ever since getting she got first camera (a Polaroid Swinger) when she was 10. As geography professors, her parents took her sister and her camping in all 48 contiguous states, instilling a love of travel and nature. The traveling continues with her husband, John. During the summers of 1982 and '83, as a student at Montclair State College (now University), Elizabeth was unbelievably lucky to be a member of the group that documented and had complete (except, of course where there was asbestos) run of the 3 islands of Ellis Island for the National Park Service before the major renovations began. She also did publicity photography part time for 12 years while teaching Special Education in Montclair. Elizabeth retired 4 years ago after 40 years and she is really enjoying the time to focus on photography (forgive the pun).

Knot Seeing Things Display:

All the photos for this exhibit, Knot Seeing Things, were taken on the new boardwalk across the road from the Helen C. Fenske Visitor Center in the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Elizabeth and her husband frequently walk there and because she's always looking through a camera's eye, she started seeing things in the knots. What she sees/saw might or might not be what others see, so she'll include clipboards for viewers to tell her (and others) what they see. If viewers want to know what she sees, her impression will be on the underside of the picture attached to the clipboard. She doesn't want to initially influence others, but does want to provide an answer to "What on Earth does she see in that?"
