Fatal Attraction: The Lure of the Villain

Fictional villains are unpredictable, complex, daring, and driven.  They are, in fact, worthy adversaries of the heroes who oppose them. From Professor Moriarty to Hannibal Lecter, villains challenge societal norms and push the boundaries of morality. Whether you’re a writer seeking inspiration or a reader fascinated by the darker aspects of thriller-driven fiction, this event promises a lively discussion about criminal masterminds and the power they wield over our imagination.

Lori Robbins is the Amazon bestselling author of the On Pointe and Master Class mystery series and a contributor to The Secret Ingredient: A Mystery Writers Cookbook. She is the recipient of two Silver Falchions, the Indie Award for Best Mystery, and a silver medal in the Daphne du Maurier Award for Mystery and Suspense. Short stories include “Leading Ladies,” which received Honorable Mention in the 2022 Best American Mystery and Suspense anthology. A former dancer, Lori performed with a number of modern dance and classical ballet companies, but it was her commercial work, for Pavlova Perfume and Macy’s, that paid the bills. After ten very lean years onstage she became an English teacher and now writes full-time. Lori is co-president of the New York chapter of Sisters in Crime and an active member of MWA. Her experiences as a dancer, teacher, and mother of six have made her an expert in the homicidal tendencies everyday life inspires.

Janette is the Assistant Director. She has a B.A. in History and an M.S. in Library Science. Among her many responsibilities, her favorite is selecting and ordering books for the adult fiction, nonfiction and large print collections.

An avid reader, Janette runs the Romantic Fiction (first Wednesday of the month) and the Page Turners (second Wednesday of the month) book groups. She is also a supporter of the romance genre and will gladly help "match you" with the perfect romance novel.

In 2021, Janette launched a Virtual Author Chat series where she chats with local authors about their writing and their path to publication. All of the chats have been recorded and are available to watch on the library's YouTube channel. In 2025, Janette established a writers' circle at the library. Pen to Paper at Wayne PL meets on the third Saturday of each month. In concert with the writers' circle, Janette also organizes monthly writing workshops which are led by local published authors.
