Chick Corea was one of jazz piano's greatest innovators. He was perhaps best known for his 1971 band, Return to Forever --one of the most popular jazz-rock bands of the 1970s -- introducing a whole generation of young listeners to jazz. But his roots were deeper than that. Inspired by legendary keyboardists like Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, Corea succeeded Herbie Hancock in Miles Davis' Quintet; learned his skills as a sideman with Woody Herman, Stan Getz, and Freddie Hubbard; led several different types of bands; and performed with and composed for several symphony orchestras. He released nearly 90 albums and won 24 Grammy Awards.
On Wednesday, June 11, Sandy Josephson, Editor of Jersey Jazz Magazine, will celebrate Corea's legacy with a presentation that covers the highlights of his incredible life and career and showcases some of his most important performances.
Corea, who died February 9, 2021, at the age of 79, would have celebrated his 84th birthday on June 12th of this year.

Lastly, Patty designs and produces the monthly adult program newsletter (aptly called "Check It Out!") which is available digitally and in print to keep you up to date with all the library has to offer!
She has been at the Wayne Public Library since 2004, and has a BFA Degree in Writing & Publishing, and a Masters in Library & Information Sciences.
