Writing Workshop - World Building Isn't Just for Fantasy Writers with Mickey Flagg In-Person

Join us for a writing workshop with local author, Mickey Flagg.

Building Your World with Words - Worldbuilding Isn't Just For Fantasy Writers

Purpose: To clarify the importance of world-building.

Objectives:

To focus world building skills in any writing genre

To differentiate between micro and macro world building

To identify the importance of consistency in the world a writer creates

To clarify the what, when, why, and how the writer’s world works

To encourage deeper thinking about the aspects of his/her/their world

Program description:

This presentation includes a power point to highlight the objectives listed above and answers the question: Why is world-building important? It will allow authors, whether novice or published in any genre, to reflect on how that world vision transfers into the written word. Aspects of world-building as well as the importance of dialogue to reveal the writer’s world are described. Discussion and Q & A is encouraged. A world building handout is available to participants.

Mickey Flagg is a multiple award-winning author who writes paranormal tales of passion with a twist of fate. Her mystical warriors, witches, teen-age ghosts and not-so-normal creatures of the night speak to the heart. Mickey is also published in the field of music education and in Still Standing, a web-magazine about loss and healing. She is a member of LSFW, NJRW and NJ Author network. When not writing or editing, part of her down-time includes snuggling with her very affectional Maine Coon.

Janette is the Assistant Director. She has a B.A. in History and an M.S. in Library Science. Among her many responsibilities, her favorite is selecting and ordering books for the adult fiction, nonfiction and large print collections.

An avid reader, Janette runs the Romantic Fiction (first Wednesday of the month) and the Page Turners (second Wednesday of the month) book groups. She is also a supporter of the romance genre and will gladly help "match you" with the perfect romance novel.

In 2021, Janette launched a Virtual Author Chat series where she chats with local authors about their writing and their path to publication. All of the chats have been recorded and are available to watch on the library's YouTube channel. In 2025, Janette established a writers' circle at the library. Pen to Paper at Wayne PL meets on the third Saturday of each month. In concert with the writers' circle, Janette also organizes monthly writing workshops which are led by local published authors.
