Writing Workshop - The Synopsis - Just Write It with Award Winning Author, Shirley Hailstock

Writing Workshop - The Synopsis - Just Write It with Award Winning Author, Shirley Hailstock In-Person

Join us for a writing workshop with award winning author, Shirley Hailstock.

This workshop will cover the mechanics of writing the synopsis.  It will include a how-to demonstration on what goes into the synopsis, how to construct one and how to keep the editor reading. Whether you're a plotter or a seat-of-the-pants author, you can write a synopsis before you write the book.

Shirley Hailstock loves reading. She'd like nothing better than to find a corner in the library and get lost in a book, explore new worlds and visit places she never expected to see. Now as an author, she can not only visit those places, but she can be the heroine of her own stories. A past president of Romance Writers of America, Shirley began her writing career on a dare. Taking a year to complete her first manuscript, the writing bug bit her and she discovered telling stories of love and adventure was what she wanted to spend her life doing.

Janette is the Assistant Director. She has a B.A. in History and an M.S. in Library Science. Among her many responsibilities, her favorite is selecting and ordering books for the adult fiction, nonfiction and large print collections.

An avid reader, Janette runs the Romantic Fiction (first Wednesday of the month) and the Page Turners (second Wednesday of the month) book groups. She is also a supporter of the romance genre and will gladly help "match you" with the perfect romance novel.

In 2021, Janette launched a Virtual Author Chat series where she chats with local authors about their writing and their path to publication. All of the chats have been recorded and are available to watch on the library's YouTube channel. In 2025, Janette established a writers' circle at the library. Pen to Paper at Wayne PL meets on the third Saturday of each month. In concert with the writers' circle, Janette also organizes monthly writing workshops which are led by local published authors.
