Writing Workshop - Self-publishing 101 In-Person
Join us for a writing workshop with author, Skye McDonald.
Indie Publishing 101
Want to publish your book but have no idea where to start?
You’ve finished (or almost finished) your manuscript. Now what?
Indie publishing can feel overwhelming. Platforms, editing, covers, marketing, money. It’s a lot. And most advice online either assumes you already know the basics or tries to sell you something.
This workshop cuts through all of that.
Led by Skye McDonald, indie author and owner of Anti-Belle Books Publishing, this session pulls back the curtain on what it actually takes to publish your book independently. Get the inside info from someone who’s done it.
In just one hour, you’ll learn what actually matters (and what doesn't!) when it comes to self-publishing. You’ll get a clear, realistic picture of the process, avoid the most common beginner mistakes, and walk away with a simple, actionable plan for your next steps.
No fluff. No gatekeeping. No pretending this is easy.
Just honest, practical guidance to help you get your book out into the world.
If you’ve been stuck in “I don’t even know where to begin,” this is your starting point.
Skye McDonald is a contemporary romance author who writes steamy, emotionally rich stories centered on self-love, growth, and the kind of chemistry that refuses to be ignored. Her books feature strong, complex women learning to choose themselves first and the partners who are bold enough to meet them there.
Skye’s first novel, Not Suitable for Work, won the Linda Howard Award for Romance in 2019. Scoreless, her first hockey romance, was an Amazon Bestseller and #1 New Release. She has been featured in numerous articles, podcasts, and interviews. Her novels have also been featured in Romance Reveal Book Box.
Skye is passionate about empowering others to live fully and unapologetically. Beyond fiction writing, she co-hosts The Quick & Dirty Romance Podcast, works as a public speaker, and facilitates a monthly women's collective. She blogs about love in real life on Substack as A Bit Much.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Skye is a former English teacher in Brooklyn now living in Montclair, New Jersey. In her free time, she hikes with her dogs, travels, Scuba dives, drinks lots of coffee, and bakes killer biscotti. She’s slowly learning the art of leading a gentle life.

Event Organizer
Janette is the Assistant Director. She has a B.A. in History and an M.S. in Library Science. Among her many responsibilities, her favorite is selecting and ordering books for the adult fiction, nonfiction and large print collections.
An avid reader, Janette runs the Romantic Fiction (first Wednesday of the month) and the Page Turners (second Wednesday of the month) book groups. She is also a supporter of the romance genre and will gladly help "match you" with the perfect romance novel.
In 2021, Janette launched a Virtual Author Chat series where she chats with local authors about their writing and their path to publication. All of the chats have been recorded and are available to watch on the library's YouTube channel. In 2025, Janette established a writers' circle at the library. Pen to Paper at Wayne PL meets on the third Saturday of each month. In concert with the writers' circle, Janette also organizes monthly writing workshops which are led by local published authors.
