"Women's Role in Washington's Headquarters"

"Women's Role in Washington's Headquarters" In-Person / Online

Dr. Lucia McMahon, History Department Chairperson, William Paterson University will be here to give a talk on women's role at Washington's Headquarters.  In the 18th century the duties of women in the household were hands on.  From cleaning, to pumping the water, to raising the fruits, vegetables and animals for the table.  Slaughtering, food preparation, building the fires for cooking - the tasks were many and not easy.  Now picture George Washington arriving with several of his troops - where will they sleep how will they be fed, how will their uniforms be cleaned and pressed.  The tasks were endless, the rooms crowded and there was so much that the women of the household had to do in an organized and effortless fashion.  It could not have been easy!

Dr. McMahon who specializes in women's history will give us a glimpse into their lives and portray has it was done.   .Click Here to Watch Over Zoom
